The Kelowna Running Club will provide opportunities for the community to participate, recreate and be educated in the sport of running at whatever level they choose.
Our mission is to help bring the community of running to as many people as possible. We host multiple weekly runs, provide group coaching and continue to organize some of the longest standing races in Kelowna.
Every year the Interior Running Association (IRA) coordinates two race series: Road and Cross Country (XC), held throughout the beautiful interior BC.
The Road Race Series comprises eight races, ranging from 5K to half-marathon in distance, starting in February and going through August. The XC Series comprises 5 races, held from late September through early November.
Series points are earned by runners at each race and results are calulated on both clock time and age-graded time. At the completion of each series, awards are given to age-group winners and age-graded winners based on totalling their best results over the relevant series; e.g. in 2019: 5 road races and 4 XC races. A runner that runs and completes ALL the races in EITHER of the series, in a year, receives that year's IRA Iron Legs award for the relevant series; i.e. all of the Road Races OR all of the XC Races that year. Any runner that runs in and completes ALL the races in BOTH series in a year receives the IRA Legs of Steel award for that year; i.e. all of the Road Races AND ALL of the XC Races that year.
NOTE: for any runner to receive any IRA award, they must have raced and qualified as a registered member of an IRA member Running Club. So if you're from Kelowna, join KRC!
The 2020 IRA executive committee was elected at the AGM in early November 2019. They have completed scheduling of races for 2020; details can be found at the Interior Running Association - Events webpage. Be sure to check back periodically for any revisions.
