The Kelowna Running Club wants you to get to know about the club and some of its members and has started a new project called "KRC Runner Profile".
Every month we will feature a different runner in our ‘Runner Profile’ section. This will range from someone who has just taken up the sport, right through to the most talented runners Kelowna has to offer. We will ask each runner a few questions, so that you can find out a little about them, their interests and their plans for the future. Let us know if you have suggestions or would like to volunteer to be featured in our next profile.
Runner Profile – Peter Pollhammer
Why do you run?
I have always loved the sense of competition. Running is also so accessible wherever you are in the world and keeps you healthy. The social aspect of running is also very important to me.
Why did you join the Kelowna Running Club?
I joined the KRC after moving to Kelowna as I was looking for people to run with. I joined the goats run; everyone was so friendly and sociable.
What are your favourite KRC weekly events and why?
My preferences have evolved over the years. Presently, I prefer the morning Creekers runs as us retirees like to run in the morning! You can run as fast as you want with friends in the morning and always enjoy great conversation over coffee right afterwards.
What is the most memorable moment that has happened to you on a run?
In 2000, I asked my wife to drop me off at Myra and pick me up at June Springs so I could run the Kettle Valley Rail Trail. As I rounded a corner there was a tunnel to run through, then trestle bridges, and then another tunnel. It was incredible.
How did you first get into running?
I’ve been running since junior high school as Harry Jerome (Canadian Olympian) attended our school and drew people into running. I now have over 66 years of running experience!
You'll be welcome and all runs and races will become wonderful experiences.Join Us!
